Each year, Austin residents have the chance to help tackle hunger by participating in Austin Restaurant Weeks, an annual fundraiser for the Central Texas Food Bank. The event runs from Aug. 15-Sept. 2, during which patrons can dine at more than 100 participating restaurants in the Austin area. A portion of proceeds from each meal will benefit the food bank. Most participating restaurants offer prix fixe meals—$20 for lunch or brunch, which provides 12 meals for neighbors in need; a $35 dinner option, which provides 20 meals; and a $50 dinner option, which provides 32 meals. Reservations are recommended but not required. Some establishments may also offer a drink option. A $12 cocktail will result in a $2 donation to the food bank, providing eight meals, and each glass of wine or beer will result in a $1 donation, or four meals. The Central Texas Food Bank is the largest hunger relief organization in Central Texas, serving nearly 50,000 children, seniors and families across 21 counties every week. Most of the participating restaurants are in the Central Austin area, as mapped below.
