Restaurateur Sharon Mays broke ground on Baby Greens—a drive-thru and walk-up restaurant with healthy fast food options—on May 26 and plans to open in July.

Mays closed Baby Greens' original location on Burnet Road in 2009 to re-work and rebrand the business, and chose a location at 1508 W. Anderson Lane as the new home for her restaurant.

"I can't wait; I'm super excited for the neighborhood and the neighborhood is excited," Mays said. "This has been a long time coming. ... Now we're ready to steamroll ahead and get it open."

Mays is renovating a former automobile repair shop to house her business and plans to expand the building, add landscaping and outdoor seating and commission a large mural for the side of the restaurant—a callback to Baby Greens' former location, which also featured a mural.

Baby Greens' menu will also receive an update, although Mays plans to keep the "old favorites" such as strawberry lemonade and the Sharon—or chef's—salad.

"Healthy fast food is something this city has needed for a long time," Mays said. "I want to hurry up and get this open for me, for them, for everybody. I'm really excited."
