Sixty units of micro-housing apartments are coming to East Sixth Street next year.

Austin-based developer Watershed Development Group announced March 14 that its Sixth and Chicon project, located at 1812 E. Sixth St., Austin, has broken ground. Developers said the six-story multifamily housing complex designed by Mark Odom Studio will offer a minimalist "micro-lifestyle" in the rapidly-developing east side area located near the Plaza Saltillo Capital Metro station and a variety of restaurants, bars and retail spaces.

“Our design team worked masterfully to understand and execute this project using some specialized ordinances and land development code provisions allowing for smaller units and much less parking than would normally be required anywhere else in Austin,” Watershed founder Nathan Vargo said in a statement. “My partners and I are excited to bring these carefully designed units online, in what is arguably the most walkable submarket in Austin."

According to Watershed, Sixth and Chicon is expected to be completed next summer and will include several fitness rooms, coworking spaces, community kitchens and a rooftop patio with downtown views. The development's micro-apartments with built-in furnishings will range from 252 to 465 square feet. www.watersheddevelopmentgroup.com
