An eighth water distribution site will open in Austin at noon Feb. 8, as a boil-water notice caused by Austin Water operator error remains in effect citywide.
The new site, located at Austin Community College's Pinnacle Campus on Hwy. 290, will join seven other locations that the city said have now provided more than 13,100 cases of water this week. Anyone able to boil their own water is asked to do so instead, while residents in need of water and who are unable to travel to a distribution site can contact 311 for assistance.
"Most of the sites opened in the first phase were selected based on community need and prioritizing areas with high levels of food insecurity. Residents who have the ability and means are asked to purchase or boil their own water so that limited supplies at distribution sites can go to those who need it most," the city said in a statement.

The city of Austin is opening additional water distribution sites Feb. 7 as the boil water notice remains in effect.
The notice was ordered Feb. 5 after a personal error lead to higher-than-average turbidity—a measure of cloudiness in the water caused by sediment and other compounds—at the Ullrich Water Treatment Plant.
By the time the distribution sites closed Feb. 6, approximately 7,220 cases of water and 6,000 gallons of potable water from Austin Water Utility tanker trucks were distributed by the city.
