The eatery—which opened Feb. 7—occupies the patio front of Lakeline Mall, where Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant was located.
Steitieh said Rumaan’s authentic food sets it apart from other establishments. The family-owned restaurant uses homemade recipes mastered by Alsukhni’s wife, Jumana, who is the chef.
“I’m passionate about the food, I’m passionate about the quality, the presentation of it,” Steitieh said. “All of that [makes us] unique from other restaurants.”
Alsukhni said customers at Rumaan are in for a “total experience.” He said the restaurant’s ambience and setting sets it apart from other quick service Mediterranean restaurants.
“I don’t think that there is any other Mediterranean restaurant in the vicinity of the area that offers a sit-down full service,” Alsukhni said. “That is, I believe, a differentiator.”
Rumaan means “pomegranate” in Arabic, which is featured in the restaurant’s logo and decor.
Since its opening, the restaurant has seen some growth, but there have been challenges with staffing and inflation, Alsukhni said.
Alsukhni and Steitieh hope to host events and private parties at the restaurant, which has both indoor and patio space. Alsukhni said the venue can accommodate 180 people.
Additionally, the owners look forward to expanding the restaurant’s menu and growing its customer base. The menu will have more appetizers, main courses, desserts and fresh juice options. Steitieh said in the future, they hope to expand by opening Rumaan locations in South Austin and North Central Austin.
“We’d love to see you here,” Alsukhni said. “We promise you quality food and service at very reasonable prices—anybody who has tried our food has been extremely happy with the experience, so I think we just need to spread the word and reach out to more people.”
