Owners Chris Cunningham and Ali White opened Nervous Charlie's off North Lamar Boulevard in 2018 after moving to Austin from New York. The bagel shop is named after the couple's dog Charlie.
“She doesn't necessarily like bagels, but she is genuinely nervous,” Cunningham said.
What's on the menu
The shop makes New York-inspired breakfast and lunch sandwiches, cream cheese, and bagels in-house using dough shipped from New York City. Popular menu items include the bacon, egg and cheese or sausage, egg and cheese classic sandwich; the pastrami hash sandwich; and the Longhorn Sandwich, Cunningham said.
Quote of note
“There's so many people from Austin that have transplanted from the Northeast, where bagels have been such a big part of their lives,” Cunningham said. “For those individuals that grew up in Austin or grew up in a place where they didn't have bagels, my favorite part is showing them what a real bagel should taste like.”
What's next
Cunningham said he has always wanted to open a shop in Cedar Park and that the West Whitestone Boulevard spot was the perfect location.
“I love Cedar Park,” Cunningham said. “It's been so wild just to kind of see the progression of Cedar Park and everything that's been kind of moving up there in that community.”
