The Skate Gym, the Austin area’s only fully-indoor skate park, is now offering skateboarders a chance to safely hone their skills at its new permanent location in Leander.
The Skate Gym opened at its new location on Feb. 3 at 11880 Hero Way West. The company had held a soft opening on June 10 of 2024 and was temporarily operating out of suite 401 of the business park, but recently moved into its permanent location in suite 704, said owner John Miller.
What they offer
The 2,000 square foot facility offers multiple ramps, half pipes, rails and banked pyramids to help skaters of all ages and skill levels learn to skateboard in a safe and supervised environment.
The gym has five coaches who offer one-on-one instruction or group classes for both kids and adults, and an on-site skate shop where customers can purchase boards, helmets, pads and tools for customizing and modifying their deck. There is also a wide selection of boards that students can borrow, many of which were donated by local nonprofit 512 Sk8 Project.
The space also features a “chill-out lounge” where skaters can relax and play video games like “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater” in between sessions.
What’s next?
Going forward, the Skate Gym will continue to offer private and group lessons and will also hold seminars on diverse topics, such as how to help visually-impaired students safely experience skateboarding. The company is planning on having an official ribbon cutting on March 18 that is open to the public.
