Upcoming projects
1. US 290 enhancements
Project: The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority and Texas Department of Transportation are studying the feasibility of extending tolled main lanes alongside existing non-tolled lanes, adding signalized intersections, and enhancing pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure along a 15-mile stretch of US 290 to ease congestion as the area's population continues to grow.
Update: An environmental study and schematic design are underway, with the first draft schematics expected in mid-2026, according to Mobility Authority records.
Ongoing projects
2. Blakey Lane extension
Project: The road will be extended from Edward Burleson Lane south to an intersection with roundabout options at Old Austin Highway.
Update: Construction began May 25, according to city records.
3. SH 95 improvements
Project: TxDOT is upgrading SH 95 from SL 230 to south of FM 535 in Smithville from a two-lane rural roadway to a three-lane urban roadway with a continuous left-turn lane. Improvements will include sidewalks, curb ramps, handrails and pedestrian signals.
Update: Construction began in January, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
