Music still matters at Richardson rock and blues venue Six Springs Live

Visitors to Six Springs Live in Richardson will not find pool tables or the big game on TV behind the bar. But they will find live music, and a lot of it.

Husband-and-wife duo Brad and Keri Springs opened the business at Plano and Belt Line roads in 2017 after noticing a lack of live music venues booking original acts.

“There really wasn’t anywhere to go see good, original music in Richardson,” Brad said. “There are plenty of venues [booking cover bands]—we look to be something different.”

Brad, an Austin transplant, had worked in just about every corner of the industry—from sound engineering to booking and band management—before moving to the Dallas area to be with Keri in 2014. That well-versed industry acumen permeates through every aspect of the business. Top-of-the-line acoustics and equipment mean the music sounds the same no matter where people stand in the 7,000-square-foot venue, Brad said.

“[The sound is] crisper; there’s not a lot of feedback, bouncing or echoes,” he said.

Brad and Keri are not only committed to promoting original music but also to emulating the camaraderie found among musicians in Austin. Earlier this year they hosted the Battle of the Bands qualifiers for Wildflower Festival, and in the fall they will serve as the closing venue for Arts Incubator of Richardson’s Ricochet event.

Part of that dedication to musicianship also means granting performers the respect of an attentive audience, he said.

“I’ve found that it’s rude to musicians when they are up on stage playing and people have their backs on them, watching the television,” he said.

Guests can hear original live music at Six Springs Live five nights a week. Performances consist of anything but country, death metal and rap, tending to lean more toward blues and rock, Brad said.
