Trash and recycling collection in the city of Allen is cancelled through Jan. 27 due to extreme winter weather, according to the city’s website. Trash and recycling collections will resume on scheduled pickup days, beginning with Wednesday, Jan. 28, per Community Waste Disposal's website. Trash that is normally collected Monday and Tuesday will be recovered next week. Recycling will be recovered between Saturday and Sunday.

CWD staff will continue to monitor the situation and share a recovery plan once operations can resume safely, the city’s website states. Residents are advised to leave items out until service is completed.

The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex has been under an extreme cold warning since Jan. 25, according to the National Weather Service.
Wind chills will be as cold as -5 degrees, with forecast low temperatures ranging from 7 to 16 degrees Tuesday morning, per NWS.

- Allen Public Library

In addition, the City Council workshop has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m. The regular meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m.
According to the city’s website, residents can prevent frozen pipes by:
- Disconnecting outdoor hoses and put insulated covers over outdoor hose spigots.
- Turning off all irrigation/sprinklers.
- Opening cabinet doors beneath your sinks, allowing warm air to reach pipes.
- Leaving indoor faucets on a very slow drip.
