Allen ISD is on track to deliver multiple bond-funded projects this year including school renovations and a new multipurpose complex at Allen High School.
The overview
The district’s operations department managed five construction projects during the 68-day summer window, according to a staff presentation. That’s an increase from one or two projects that are typically completed over the summer, said Brent Benningfield, assistant superintendent of operations.
Campuses and buildings that were renovated over the summer include:
Cheatham Elementary School
Anderson Early Childhood School
Allen High School Activity Center
Curtis Middle School
Allen ISD is also overseeing construction of a new multipurpose complex at Allen High School. Benningfield and Brian Neely, executive director of operations, reviewed ongoing and recently completed school district projects during a Sept. 28 board of directors meeting.
Each project is financed by a voter-approved bond measure passed in 2024. To learn more, visit www.allenisdbond.com/o/bond.
A closer look
District officials worked on multiple projects at once this summer to avoid inflationary costs, Benningfield said. Renovations have been completed at Cheatham Elementary School and Anderson Early Childhood School, according to officials.
Renovations at the Allen High School Activity Center are nearly complete and the building is in use. The project will be completely finished around the winter, Benningfield said.
Curtis Middle School is undergoing a phased renovation that’s expected to continue until July 2027, according to the staff presentation. The first two phases were completed over the summer and the third phase is scheduled to wrap up Oct. 9, Neely said.
The multipurpose complex at the high school is on schedule to be completed later this year, according to the staff presentation.
“All of our projects have been on time with this team and all have been within budget,” Neely said. “That’s a huge, huge deal.”
Looking ahead
District officials are also planning renovations to Green Elementary School and Ford Middle School. Both projects are currently in the design phase, but construction is expected to start in 2027.
Renovations to Green Elementary School are currently expected to start in summer 2027, Neely said. Renovations at Ford Middle School will be broken up into two phases with the first phase scheduled to start in summer 2027 and the second phase scheduled for summer 2028.
