Here are 5 things to know this week if you live in The Woodlands area.

1. Last week, a Texas judge blocked a new overtime rule that would have gone into effect Thursday. The Sherman Division of the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Texas granted a preliminary nationwide injunction against the new federal rule, under which salaried workers who earn less than $47, 476 would be entitled to overtime compensation at 1.5 times the hourly rate.

2. The Woodlands Township board of directors will select its new officers during its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The board will vote on the positions of chairman, vice chairman, secretary and treasurer. The newest board members elected Nov. 8—Brian Boniface, John Anthony Brown, Bruce Rieser and incumbent Gordy Bunch—will also be officially seated during the meeting.

3. Discussion surrounding incorporation has been a hot topic in The Woodlands this fall. Wednesday's township meeting will also include several agenda items on the topic, which can be viewed here. There is no timeline regarding incorporation, but The Woodlands has until 2057 to do so until it risks becoming annexed by Houston or Conroe, according to current law.

4. Interested in learning more about improvements to Bear Branch Park? The township will host a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at 5310 Research Forest Drive. In August, the township’s board of directors approved a request for proposals to update the 24-year-old park’s master plan. One reason for updating the master plan involves a proposal for a 50-meter Olympic pool to be located at the park.

5. The annual Human Rights Walk and Festival returns to The Woodlands this Saturday at Town Green Park. The family-friendly event includes entertainment, food, music, educational speakers and a walk supporting human rights education around the world.
