Seafood enthusiasts can experience popular seafood selections from around the U.S. on Lake Conroe at Tony’s Seafood Shack in Montgomery.

Owner Scott Smith said the restaurant offers a casual seafood dining experience in the spirit of traditional seafood, lobster or fish shacks common in coastal regions around the country.

The restaurant serves a variety of seafood fare, including lobster rolls, fish and chips, fish tacos, soups and chowder, sandwiches and seafood plates. Smith said he also enjoys adding new items to the menu regularly. The newest dish—the sesame seared ahi tuna plate—was added to the menu in early May.

“We wanted to evolve the menu and experiment with food,” Smith said. “We have tweaked several menu items. We already had a traditional lobster roll here, so we added a naked lobster roll with no sauces—just butter and plain lobster meat.”

In October, the restaurant added a lunch special menu, which Smith offers to senior citizens all day long.

Additionally, Smith said he hopes to add fresh Alaskan halibut and salmon as well as blackened grouper from Florida during the summer fishing season.

Smith purchased the restaurant last October, fulfilling his goal to operate a restaurant in Montgomery County.

Smith relocated his family to Montgomery four years ago following a career in the technology sector. He is in the process of selling his most recent business, an automotive repair center in College Station, and has dabbled in various industries throughout his career.

“It is difficult to see myself doing 35 years at the same job and company, so I want to challenge myself on a constant basis and learn something new every day,” he said.

The opportunity to operate the restaurant presented itself during Smith’s first visit to Tony’s Seafood Shack, which opened May 2015, he said.

“One of my early passions in life was cooking; I have done it since I was a kid,” Smith said. “I came [to the restaurant] for dinner one night and heard the story of how they were [undergoing] a management change, and [I thought it was] a unique opportunity, so I offered to partner with them.”

Smith said he wants to grow the business by expanding the menu and and services within the upcoming year.

“This space is 1,400 square feet, which is a great size to experiment and show that the business is going to be a success,” Smith said. “Now, the goal is to double or triple in size and take another step to a full-service restaurant.”
