Katy ISD will break ground on its second sports stadium Feb. 5.
“Our goal is to complete this [project] prior to the start of the regular 2017 football season,” KISD planner and architect Peter McElwain said.
The second stadium will be located next to the existing Rhodes Stadium at 5105 Franz Road.
The capacity of Rhodes Stadium is about 9,800, and the new stadium will have 12,000 seats according to preliminary plans.
On Dec. 7, the KISD board of trustees approved building out the second-floor shell space of the stadium for multipurpose uses and for the athletics department.
With the build out and the overall stadium construction, the project is estimated to cost about $57 million.
