After announcing construction of the B-1 section of the Grand Parkway set to run through Galveston and Brazoria counties, officials from the Texas Department of Transportation are asking for community feedback on proposed changes.

A closer look

TxDOT is proposing design changes to the approved alignment of the Grand Parkway from Hwy. 288 to I-45 in Brazoria and Galveston counties.

Since the project plan was approved in 2016, land use has changed along the corridor, triggering the design change proposal. The changes are as follows:
  • Two diamond interchanges and four overpasses added between I-45 and Hwy. 35
  • A shift of the alignment to the north between Hobbs and Calder roads to avoid 26 homes built within the previous plan’s alignment
  • Updates to the right of way needs for the southbound direct connector at I-45
  • Design modifications at the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railroads
  • The inclusion of 43 stormwater detention ponds along Grand Parkway segment B1 project limits
TxDOT held a virtual public meeting to discuss the proposed changes Oct. 10 and an in-person public meeting at Alvin High School on Oct. 12.

A second in-person open house meeting will be held Oct. 17 from 5-7 p.m. at the Lobit Elementary School cafeteria in Dickinson.

TxDOT officials anticipate construction on the B-1 section of the Grand Parkway will begin in 2027 and take three years to complete.
