A fire broke out around 1:15 a.m. Aug. 15 on Kentucky Street near downtown McKinney. One business and two homes were affected, according to a news release from the McKinney Fire Department.

McKinney fire crews arrived at the 600 block of Kentucky Street to find one home on fire with flames spreading to a nearby business, Leo’s Trim Shop. Another home adjacent to the business was also affected. Residents in nearby homes were evacuated during the fire, according to the release.

One home involved in the fire has severe damage, while the other incurred a small amount of damage. The business, located at 606 N. Kentucky St., was destroyed due to the upholstery products housed there that helped fuel the fire, according to the release.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital, but no other injuries were reported. Fire investigators are still determining the cause of the fire, according to the release.

“The firefighters adapted quickly to a changing situation,” McKinney Fire Chief Paul Dow said in the release. “Firefighters did a great job of stretching lines, making sure everyone was evacuated and keeping the fire from spreading further.”
