Collin County commissioners approved additional funding for LifePath Systems, a nonprofit focused on mental illness, intellectual disabilities and developmental delays, to increase wages for its direct care professionals.

Commissioners approved funding for $55,000 for Life Path Systems’ four long-term care facilities at an April 6 meeting. The funding will raise base pay from $10 per hour to $15 per hour for direct care professionals.

The homes provide long-term residential care to those with mental disabilities. LifePath Systems has offices out of McKinney, Plano and Frisco.

The wage increase ensures the group homes will have direct care staff available in its 24-hour facilities, according to a letter by CEO Tammy Mahan to commissioners.

“The funds will also allow staff to not have to work multiple jobs at multiple long term care facilities,” Mahan said in the letter. “By limiting the number of long term care facilities that individuals work in, we can reduce the risk of disease transmission, including COVID-19, for this high risk medically fragile population.”

The funding will be dispersed to $27,500 per month for 2 months, according to county documents.
