Length of residency in San Marcos: 44 years

Why are you running?

I am running to represent all the people of San Marcos. I want to be a voice of the people, for the people, by the people. I want to make a difference in the development of such a wonderful community while protecting the integrity and the quality of life that attracts so many to become residents of this beautiful city.

What is the greatest challenge facing the city?

I believe there are many challenges  facing this city. The obvious is: traffic, single family homes, neighborhoods, development, growth, infrastructure, and a livable wage. The one less spoken about is unity there seems to be a division between the Collegiate students and the permanent residents of San Marcos and even further, different areas of San Marcos. I truly believe that if we can come together and meet on a commonplace, there is nothing to stop us. Not from being  just a nice city but a Great City. One that other communities can look to as an example. Juntos podemos, together we can!

Why do you believe you are the most qualified candidate?

I believe that I am the most qualified candidate because I have served on the council and served as mayor pro-tempore. I have served on the economic steering committee for the National League of Cities among other boards and commissions. I believe that a fresh approach and fresh outlook is what our city is looking for. Listening to the people and what they want is truly what qualifies anyone to be in an elected position.

What do you believe the city should do to protect neighborhoods and have adequate housing for students?

Students have as much a right to be here as the permanent residents, and I appreciate the university and all that it provides for a community. I do feel however, that the single-family neighborhoods need to be protected as ”single-family” residences, city ordinances we have in place are actually enforced, and that the university work together as a state entity with the city of San Marcos to ensure that its residents and students are following the guidelines of the community.

What do you believe the top priority should be as the city begins to administer the $25 million disaster recovery grant from 2015’s two floods?

I believe the top priority should be assistance to the homes and businesses directly affected by the flood waters.  If we're not here to serve the people then why are we here.
