Round Rock ISD candidates campaign during rainy Election Day
Posted 5:14 p.m.

With just a few hours before polling locations close, candidates for Place 7 on the Round Rock ISD board of trustees are making a final round of campaign efforts during a rainy and blustery Election Day.

Tony Pitts and Mason Moses are running for the only contested position in the RRISD board election this year.

Pitts has said he chose to run in an effort to add diversity to the board as an African-American father of children attending RRISD schools. Moses, who also has children in RRISD, has said he would like to work as at trustee to engage parents and community members and encourage more participation in district business.

RRISD trustees will have several significant decisions to make next year, including whether to call a bond election for May 2017 that could potentially fund the district's plan for a sixth high school, a proposed indoor aquatic facility and other projects.

Pitts said Monday that he planned to campaign during the day before heading to a watch party at 8 p.m. to catch election results.

Moses posted a video on his campaign's Facebook page this afternoon:

Round Rock ISD Place 7 candidates prepare for election night results
Posted 2:24 p.m.

Tony Pitts, who is running against Mason Moses for the Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees Place 7, said he will host a watch party from 8-10 p.m. tonight at Fire & Ice Pizza Bar, Round Rock. Moses said he plans to follow results from home.

Place 7 is the only contested race for the RRISD board in this election. Current Place 7 Trustee Pauline Law, who was elected to the board in 2012, chose not to run for re-election.

RRISD trustees Nikki Gonzales, elected in 2014, and Charles “Chad” Chadwell, who has served on the board since 2008, are running unopposed Nov. 8.

Neither Pitts, a lawyer, nor Moses, an investment associate, have held elected office before though both have been involved in RRISD committees. They spoke about challenges RRISD will likely face in the coming year during an Oct. 18 election forum hosted by the Round Rock ISD Council of Parent-Teacher Associations.
