Downtown Round Rock’s Main Street Grill may keep its secret recipes under lock and key, but it keeps its historic bank vault open for customers to dine in and even reserve for a private candlelight dinner among rows of wine bottles.

Before it was home to one of Round Rock’s first downtown restaurants, the brick building at 118 E. Main St. was the site of a movie theater, a TV repair shop, a newspaper office and a bank—twice. Sam Wilcox, Main Street Grill general manager, said the restaurant’s unique charm and historical significance help make it a popular dining destination for special events and celebrations.

“I’ve had a lot of proposals right here in the vault,” Wilcox said.

Serving a contemporary American menu featuring items such as filet mignon and crabcakes as well as a robust wine list, Main Street Grill is one of a handful of fine-dining restaurants in Round Rock, he said.

Heading into its 17th year, the restaurant has established itself as a high-quality dining establishment, Wilcox said.

“I feel like we have one of the most well-rounded menus in Round Rock, especially for fine dining,” he said. “There really aren’t many fine-dining restaurants in Round Rock to begin with, so it’s nice for people in the surrounding area not to have to drive all the way to Austin [for that experience].”

Main Street Grill is open for lunch and dinner. The lunch menu includes sandwiches and lighter fare, and the dinner menu features a variety of appetizers and entrees ranging from $27-$33 per entree. The menu changes several times each year, and the kitchen staff takes care to ensure ingredients are humanely sourced, Wilcox said.

Beyond the menu, Wilcox said Main Street Grill emphasizes service.

“When you come to Main Street Grill, you’re treated like family,” he said.
