To alleviate traffic congestion along RR 620 in western Travis County, Capital Metro recommended constructing and maintaining a Park & Ride bus service facility in Four Points in its Connections 2025 plan, spokesperson Mariette Hummel said.

The Connections plan is used to establish a more frequent, reliable and connected transit system, to be implemented in phases over the next 10 years, beginning in January 2017, according to Capital Metro's website.

The Four Points project is slated for a 2018 study, Hummel said.

The agency is considering locating the new center on a tract just off the proposed bypass at RR 620 and RR 2222, she said. However, no land is owned or space leased yet for that purpose, she said.

“The specific location of the Park & Ride will be identified in the study phase,” Hummel said.

Four Points—RR 620 at RR 2222—is in Capital Metro’s medium-range plans, she said.

“From funding approval, it will take nine to 14 months for design and environmental approval and between eight and 10 months for construction,” Hummel said. “Projected opening [for the center] would be based on when we can find funding for the project.”

She said area residents can utilize the agency's vanpool service or a carpool before the center is built.

Capital Metro currently provides transit service to 12 Park & Ride facilities throughout the Austin area, and parking is free at Capital Metro Park & Ride facilities.

The Lakeline Station, 13625 Lyndhurst Blvd., Austin, is the closest site for Four Points commuters.
