The cities of Cedar Park and Round Rock heard a presentation in May and June on the second phase of the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority project.

The BCRUA project provides water from Lake Travis to Cedar Park, Leander and Round Rock. The expanded water project can provide up to 42 million gallons of water per day from the lake to the three cities.

Aaron Archer, a project manager with HDR Engineering, said the second phase of the project includes a new deep-water intake and a new pump station in Lake Travis.

“When it’s completed, it’s going to ensure the reliability of you water supply from the lake by reducing your vulnerability to drought, and it’s going to meet your ultimate water demands here in the city,” he said.

The first phase of the project will meet capacity in 2025, which is when Archer said the cities should plan for Phase 2 to go online. Construction would take close to 5 years, so he said the final design needs to begin in 2017.

Tom Gallier, the general manager for the BCRUA, said the total cost for phase 2 of the project is $169.2 million, and Cedar Park is allocated to pay 28.9 percent of those costs.

“This is a massive project with major impact on all three cities, and very important for the future,” he said.
