The Round Rock ISD board of trustees election in November will feature one contested race, while two incumbents will run unopposed.

Mason Moses, an investment associate, and Tony A. Pitts, a civil litigation and probate lawyer, have filed to run for Place 7 on the board. That position is currently held by Pauline Law, who did not file for re-election before the Aug. 22 deadline.

Trustees on the seven-member board are elected at-large by voters and serve staggered, four-year terms.

Election day is Nov. 8. Early voting will run from Oct. 24 to Nov. 4.

Moses, who has served on district committees but has never run for elected office, said he has been a  supporter of trustees' efforts to provide new opportunities for students such as the district's career and technical training programs for high school students. He said he chose to run because he wants to continue those efforts.

“I’m really excited about the path that the district is on,” Moses said.

Pitts, who will return to the ballot after unsuccessfully running for a spot on the board in 2014, said he decided to run again because he wants to ensure the district fulfills the goals of its 2014 strategic plan update, particularly a goal to narrow academic performance gaps between white students and students of color. Pitts, who participated in developing the framework of the district's strategic aims, said he also wants to boost diversity on the board.

"I still have a passion and drive to serve the district on the board," he said. "I would like to continue on with the work that we started a couple years ago."

Two current trustees will run unopposed: Nikki Gonzales, who was elected in 2014, and Charles “Chad” Chadwell, who has served on the board since 2008.
