The Hays County Commissioners Court voted Tuesday to extend the hours of operation at Jacob’s Well Natural Area in Wimberley.
The park will open at 8 a.m. and the swimming activities will begin at 10 a.m. The park will close at 6 p.m, seven days a week.
Additionally, the swimming season will be extended from May 1-Oct. 1. The swimming season had previously run

from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
“We’ve got people who are not getting in the well, and what they’re doing is walking around enjoying the park at 8 o’clock in the morning on their morning stroll, and those who want to be admitted to swim would be admitted at 10 [a.m.],” county Judge Bert Cobb said.
Swimming must be reserved online in advance, and Brooke Leftwich, Hays County natural resources manager, said reservations should typically be made one week in advance for swimming on the weekends.
Leftwich said the extension of swimming season is aimed at allowing more swimming during Texas’ hot months, which typically begin around May 1 and last through the month of September.
After swimming season ends, guests are still welcome to hike, have picnics and visit birding areas within Jacob’s Well Natural Area.
“The whole point is to balance recreation with conservation,” Leftwich said.
Dogs, alcohol, glass containers and smoking are not allowed at the park.
