Homeowners will face a higher Austin Community College district property tax bill in fiscal year 2016-17.

ACC's board of trustees decided Tuesday to increase the district tax rate from 10.05 cents per $100 valuation in FY 2015-16 to 10.2 cents per $100 valuation in FY 2016-17.

The district's maintenance and operations tax rate—comprising 9 cents per $100 valuation—is one component of the total tax rate and supports ACC's $157 million operating budget for FY 2016-17. ACC's debt service tax rate—1.2 cents per $100 valuation---goes toward servicing the district's voter-approved general obligation bonds to pay for capital improvement projects, which total $22.6 million in FY 2016-17.

Trustees approved the tax rate in a unanimous decision after public hearings on the tax rate were held Aug. 22 and 29.

A taxpayer with a home valued at $250,000 in the ACC district paid $251.25 in taxes to the district in FY 2015-16. In FY 2016-17, that number will increase to $255 for a home with the same valuation.
