With a shared love for coffee and beer, former high school teacher Chad Misner and former national homebuilder Jon Lamb decided to open Red Horn Coffee House & Brewing Co. in Cedar Park.

The two met through their wives and then became friends and eventually business partners.

“Business partnership is way different than just friendship,” Lamb said. “Once we realized we could really work well together we decided, ‘Let’s go for it.’”

The idea to open Red Horn came from one of Lamb’s former business plans to open a coffee shop, and after meeting Misner, the plan morphed into a brewery- and coffee-shop hybrid.

“We dusted that off, kept expanding the vision and turned it full on brewery and coffee roaster,” Misner said.

Red Horn coffee is roasted in-house and the menu remains traditional without many seasonal flavors, Misner and Lamb said.

“We want coffee to be experienced the way it is intended—single origin coffee is amazing by itself and so we roast to that and we serve to that,” Lamb said.

Misner and Lamb also offer coffee and beer from area roasters and brewers, who were supportive of Red Horn when it first opened, the owners said.

Regular events, such as live music on weekends and monthly food and drink tastings, take place in partnership with Antonelli’s Cheese Shop in Austin.

“Sometimes we do just beer and cheese tastings, sometimes wine and cheese classes, and sometimes we mix beer, wine, cheese and chocolate,” said Casie Wiginton, wholesale manager at Antonelli’s. “We rotate through different subject matters. Someone explains flavor profiles and why we pair them together. I think it’s fabulous.”
