The Austin-based bar, coffee shop and restaurant Buzz Mill is planning to open a location at 194 S. Guadalupe St., San Marcos, by mid-March. Owner Jason Sabala said the restaurant will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will serve a variety of menu items, with breakfast and brunch offerings being the main focus. “If we end up being the best diner in town, great,” Sabala said. “If it’s because we have the best craft beer in town, great. If it’s something where people just love our coffee, ok. Whatever area we fit in, that’s what we’re looking to do.” Sabala said the restaurant will serve coffee from roasters throughout the world. He described the shop’s coffee offerings as “boutique-ish.” The restaurant will also feature a full bar with craft beer and infused liquors. Sabala said he has already talked to City Council Member Scott Gregson about how best to integrate the new restaurant into the community. Sabala said he plans to begin going door to door visiting with nearby residents to explain his business concept and hear their concerns. Buzz Mill will host live music throughout the week—typically from local Americana and bluegrass artists—but Sabala said he plans to let the community provide input on how late music should go. “We want to let the people know [we’re coming to town],” Sabala said. “We want to say, ‘This is us. We’re coming in, and we want to be part of this community. What do you want us to do? What are your concerns?’ Those are things we want to be really cognizant of and really make sure people know we’re there to be part of the community.” The 1,800-square-foot restaurant will have patios in the front and back of the property. On Nov. 13, City Council approved a variance allowing the bar to skip the six-month waiting period normally required for new businesses in the central business district before they can begin selling wine and beer. www.buzzmillcoffee.com Twitter: @buzzmillcoffee Vertskebap, 301 N.
