An automotive powerhouse is flexing its charity muscle this Thanksgiving. General Motors Austin Hispanic Initiative Team is partnering with River Oaks Elementary School in Pflugerville ISD—one of the district’s bilingual schools—to serve a Thanksgiving lunch to about 500 students and their families Nov. 21 from noon-3 p.m.

GM representative Angela Piñeyro De Hoyos said the event will set the stage for the new partnership anchored in science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, awareness and education.

“Hosting a meal for these incredible families around a natural gathering time, Thanksgiving, seemed like great way to get their partnership started,” De Hoyos said.

The GM IT Innovation Center, located less than two miles from River Oaks Elementary, has continued to grow its employee base since it opened in 2012 and plans to regularly mentor and tutor students, according to De Hoyos.

GM invites community members provide financial support or mentor a student. Email [email protected] or [email protected] for more information.
