Travis County Commissioner Gerald Daugherty announced Nov. 11 he will seek re-election to the Precinct 3 commissioner seat in 2016.

In a news release his campaign stated that Daugherty, a Republican, aims to primarily focus on ensuring proposed toll road SH 45 SW is completed and addressing affordability issues throughout Travis County.

“It has been a privilege and honor to serve my neighbors as their commissioner,” Daugherty said in the release. “I’ve done my dead level best to deliver on the promises that I’ve made to them, and if I’m fortunate enough to be re-elected, I will continue to fight for a comprehensive road system and a fiscally conservative county government that is worthy of the good people of Travis County.”

Daugherty said he has worked to keep Travis County’s tax rate and budget at the minimum necessary to deliver core services. He was first elected in 2002 and served until 2008, then returned to the court again in January 2013.

The primary election will take place in the spring, and the general election is scheduled for November 2016.
