Celebrate America’s birthday in Sugar Land or Missouri City with some fireworks and other activities July 4-6.

JULY
4: Freedom 5K and Family/Youth Walk, race starts at 7 a.m., Lost Creek Park, 3703 Lost Creek Blvd., Sugar Land. Registration begins at 5:45 a.m., and the awards ceremony will take place at 8:15 a.m.

4: The Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center's Kidpendence Day, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 198 Kempner St., Sugar Land. The event will feature Captain America and Lady Liberty, mask making and American flags. Tickets are $12.

4: City of Sugar Land July Fourth Celebration, 6-10 p.m. (fireworks begin at 9:40 p.m.), The Crown Festival Park, 18355 Hwy. 59, Sugar Land. In addition to event sponsor Bud Light, the city is partnering with Entercom Radio—Mix 96.5, 100.3 The Bull, 95.7 The Spot and Mega 101 FM—to provide a children's zone, face painting, an information station and a main stage featuring local talent, including the Foo Fakers and the Hayden Baker Band. The "Red, White and Boom" event is free, but tickets are required and will not be available on the day of the event. Tickets can be obtained by visiting www.sugarlandtx.gov/rwbtickets.

4: City of Missouri City’s Fourth of July Celebration, 6-9 p.m. (fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m.), Buffalo Run Park. The free event, presented by H-E-B, will start at the Thurgood Marshall High School stadium at 1122 Buffalo Run Park Blvd., Missouri City, and will include a concert, entertainment, activities and food for purchase from event vendors. On-site parking is limited. Starting at 5:45 p.m., Houston Metro will offer free shuttles from its Park & Ride location at 13849 Fondren Road, Houston, to the event site. Buffalo Run Road will be shut down to vehicle traffic starting at 3 p.m. from the second entrance at Marshall High to Fondren. Buffalo Run will be closed from the Texas Parkway once parking lots are full, and additional event traffic will be directed to the Metro Park & Ride lot.

6: Red, White, Blues & Brews featuring Tribute to George Strait, 7-9 p.m., Sugar Land Town Square, 15958 City Walk, Sugar Land. Enjoy food and drinks from Baker Street Pub & Grill and live country music from Tribute to George Strait. The free event is sponsored by Sewell Audi Sugar Land.
