Redefining independent living: How The Solana Preserve at Vintage Park keeps residents active, connected and thriving

Active independent living residents at The Solana Preserve Vintage Park enjoying fitness classes, social activities, wellness programs, and vibrant senior community life.

For many families, the idea of independent living comes with outdated assumptions about nursing homes—quiet hallways, limited activity and a clinical feel.

At The Solana Preserve at Vintage Park, the reality couldn’t be more different. The independent living community for 62-plus individuals has cultivated a vibrant, socially active environment where residents stay engaged, connected and empowered to enjoy each day.

Thoughtfully designed programming, wellness-focused amenities and a long-tenured team that prioritizes personal relationships and peace of mind for residents and families reinforce that sense of energy and connection.

A community that stays active

Daily life at The Solana Preserve revolves around choice and connection. Residents enjoy a robust activity calendar curated by a program manager who meets regularly with them to understand their interests and introduce new opportunities.

“Our calendar stays full, indicating residents are finding things they genuinely enjoy,” executive director Rena Knowles said. “Whether it’s instructor-led fitness, cognitive programs, creative projects or group outings, there’s always something happening—creating a social, energetic environment.”

The programming is designed to support physical wellness, mental stimulation and peer camaraderie—factors critical to long-term well-being and quality of life.

Amenities for comfort and peace of mind

Beyond programming, the community offers amenities that support independence, wellness and convenience:
  • Fitness center and instructor-led fitness classes
  • Outdoor pool
  • Game room and arts and crafts studio
  • Call-for-help system in every apartment plus wearable emergency pendants
  • Theater
  • Transportation services for appointments and outings
  • Library
  • On-site salon offering hair, nails and skin care
  • Visiting massage therapist
  • Highly rated dining program, ranking in the top two among nearly 700 Brookdale communities
Safety remains a top priority. If a resident presses their emergency pendant or in-apartment button, the front desk is alerted immediately. Staff initiates a wellness check within minutes, if needed, and notifies families once care is secured.

“Our amenities enhance our residents’ daily lives,” Knowles said. “Everything we offer supports independence, wellness and confidence for them to enjoy each day.”

Tenure that builds trust

Leadership stability is crucial to the community’s culture. Since its opening, Knowles has led alongside long-standing team members with deep experience and familiarity with residents’ needs.

“With tenure, we’ve built trust,” Knowles said. “Our residents and families know that we listen, we respond quickly and we find solutions.”

The smaller community size allows staff to recognize subtle changes in residents’ routines and advocate proactively for additional support—an added reassurance for families.

Experience the community firsthand

The Solana Preserve invites prospective residents and families to schedule a personal tour and enjoy a complimentary meal. Guests who visit during peak times can experience the community’s social energy and connect with residents.

“Our residents are our best ambassadors,” Knowles said. “They love sharing what life here is like.”
