For years, NBT Financial Bank showed up in Grapevine without a front door.

They supported organizations such as the Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation, Nash Farm and others, building strong relationships across the community without a permanent physical presence in the city.

Recently, NBT Financial broke ground on its future full-service Grapevine branch, marking a milestone years in the making and deeply personal for those who helped bring it to life.

The story behind the expansion

The idea for expansion didn’t arrive suddenly. It evolved patiently, guided by intention rather than urgency. Leadership at NBT Financial had long envisioned a permanent home in Grapevine—one that reflected the bank’s identity and values, not a temporary leased space. Finding the right location took time, particularly in a city where available land is limited.

“We wanted it to be ours for years and decades to come,” said Janice Spooner, Senior Vice President and Grapevine Market President.

That patience paid off when the right development emerged along Northwest Highway. The site offered not only visibility but also accessibility. Positioned near homes and both small and large businesses, the location aligned with NBT’s long-held vision of creating a true community hub.

A bank designed around people

From the start, the Grapevine branch has been envisioned to feel different: not transactional, but relational. The goal was never simply to add another bank location; it was to create a space where people will be known, welcomed, and supported across every stage of life and business.

Once the branch opens, it will blend traditional face-to-face banking with modern digital tools. Customers who value sitting across the desk from a banker will have that opportunity, while those who prioritize technological convenience will have access to full-service online and mobile banking.

The approach is intentionally flexible, recognizing that no two customers and no two financial journeys are the same.

Community impact beyond banking

NBT Financial’s involvement in Grapevine extends well beyond financial services. The bank supports schools, nonprofits, city leadership and chambers of commerce, with a strong emphasis on education and empowerment.

Spooner herself leads fraud prevention classes, hosts a financial education podcast and regularly works to bring important conversations about financial literacy into the community.

“Education is huge to me,” Spooner said.

The bank’s monthly GCISD scholarship program reflects that philosophy. Rather than rewarding only top academic performers, the program focuses on students’ understanding of financial independence and personal responsibility, supporting a wide range of post-graduation paths, from college to trade school.

One scholarship recipient was a student whose father had recently passed away.

“Being able to hear [her story] and help her fulfill her dream to go to college, while understanding she was going to have to work during college, [was great],” Spooner said. “It’s important to be accountable, responsible and understand the value of hard work.”

Spooner’s approach to banking is shaped by more than three decades in the industry and a deeply personal journey. She has spent 37 years in banking, but her connection to finance began much earlier. After losing her mother at a young age, Spooner was tasked with helping manage her family’s finances. This experience showed her firsthand how empowering, and necessary, financial knowledge can be during life’s most difficult moments.

That perspective continues to guide her leadership today, reinforcing her belief that banking should be rooted in trust, education and walking alongside people through every stage of life.

A community that shows up

The groundbreaking underscored just how connected the Grapevine community is. In the lead-up to the event, neighboring businesses, city leaders and community partners stepped in with support, offering parking, coffee, resources and their time. The ceremony itself brought together city leadership, small business owners, nonprofit partners and residents, reflecting the interconnected ecosystem NBT Financial has invested in for years.

Spooner said she is deeply grateful to everyone who attended and helped mark the milestone.

Looking ahead

With construction now underway, NBT Financial is focused on what comes next: continuing to serve as a trusted financial partner, educator and advocate for Grapevine’s growth.

The future branch will provide a foundation for stronger connections between banker and customer, business and opportunity, and education and empowerment.

“We are here to give back to the Grapevine [community], which has trusted us for multiple decades,” Spooner said. “This branch expansion is our commitment to those individuals and businesses who have banked with us and the community at large. We’re here to serve; we’re here to help, and we’re here to support.”

For NBT Financial, Grapevine isn’t just a market; it’s home.
