It often starts with something small: a resident who once said she wasn’t a dog person but now lights up when she sees a familiar pup making its daily rounds through the community. Moments like that, property manager Courtney Haney said, capture what life at Hunters Crossing Apartments is all about: connection, shared experiences and the feeling that home is more than just where you live.

Community Impact sat down with Haney to talk about the spirit of the community, what residents enjoy most and why so many people choose to call Hunters Crossing home.

How would you describe the community atmosphere, and how do residents tend to connect with one another across daily life and amenities?

Haney: I’ve always felt that our community truly feels like home, and that can mean different things to different people. We have plenty of opportunities for residents to get to know one another. Some people meet up at the dog park for play dates, and we also have a group that comes into the office every day to drink coffee and chit-chat. Others choose to stay more private, and that’s okay, too. No matter how involved someone wants to be, everyone looks out for one another.

What are some of the advantages of Hunters Crossing’s location, and what nearby spots do residents enjoy most?

Haney: I love our location because we’re not in the middle of the chaos or the traffic, but we’re still so conveniently located. Residents can easily get to everything or have everything brought to them.

If they commute, they can hop off Hwy. 71, and we’re right there. If they work locally, they’re not stuck trying to merge onto busy roads. We have multiple access points that make it easy to get around Bastrop.

People love that there’s a Domino’s at the end of our street, and we’re close to the Burleson Crossing Center, where there’s something for everyone. Soon, we’ll also be right across the street from Sprouts. There are sidewalks and trails, so people can even walk or bike to many of these places.

What types of floor plans and in-home features tend to stand out to residents?

Haney: We have five different floor plans, so there’s something for everybody. Some of the most popular options include:
  • A1 (one-bedroom): a smaller plan that’s completely optimized for space, with a pantry, walk-in closet, extra storage and a large patio
  • B2 (two-bedroom): very open, with a dining room and a designated laundry room; it’s always in high demand
  • B1 and B3 (two-bedroom): roommate-friendly layouts; bedrooms and bathrooms are on separate sides, with a shared living and dining space in the middle
There is also a three-bedroom plan that is 1,096 square feet. All of our apartments include full-size electric washer and dryer sets, a patio or balcony, nine-foot ceilings, cabinet space and walk-in closets in every layout.

Our community, spread across 12 acres, has grass, sidewalks, trails and even a pond where ducks wander through, so it doesn’t feel like you’re surrounded by concrete.

What should prospective residents know about touring and leasing?

Haney: Our occupancy is higher right now, so we don’t currently have a designated model unit. I still love inviting people in so they can get a true sense of the community. We encourage prospects to walk the property, spend time with our leasing agent and really understand what to expect before they move in.

We’re very intentional about things like parking and community policies; they’re in place to support safety, organization and a positive living experience for everyone. Transparency is really important to us. We want people to have all the information they need to make an informed decision, even if that means realizing the community may not be the right fit for them.

My leasing agent, Leanne, and I take time with everyone who visits. There are no silly questions, and if we don’t know an answer, we’ll find someone who does, so we can provide the most accurate information possible.

What do you love most about being part of this community, and how has your connection to the residents grown over the years?

Haney: I’m incredibly passionate about our community. I’ve been here for a long time, and so has my maintenance team, so we really share in our residents’ experiences. When someone tells us they’re buying their first home, we’re genuinely excited for them and celebrate that milestone.

Even during the harder seasons, we’re there with compassion. We see residents during so many major life transitions, from exciting new opportunities to downsizing to accommodate a new lifestyle.

Being part of those transitions is truly meaningful.

We also have many residents who return after living somewhere else because this is where they feel the most comfortable and at home. To me, that’s the greatest compliment. No matter where life takes them, we’re always here to welcome them back with open arms.
