Big support at no cost: How the Pearland Innovation Hub leads entrepreneurs to success

For entrepreneurs in Pearland, navigating the early stages of launching or growing a small business can feel overwhelming, isolating and unclear. That’s where the Pearland Innovation Hub steps in.

The PIH is designed to meet people where they are, whether they’re walking in with a brand-new idea or running a home-based or brick-and-mortar business that needs support to grow.

“Our core purpose is to help startups and small businesses start, scale and succeed," navigator Tania Monroy said. “Our goal is to provide resources for them to be able to [do so].”

The PIH offers its free membership to anyone; Pearland residents and Pearland-based businesses receive additional one-on-one technical assistance.

Resources include:
  • Free membership and access to the online learning platform
  • Educational tools, including a learning library and grant database
  • A calendar of community business events
  • Regular workshops, networking opportunities and professional development sessions
  • Special offerings, including youth programs and an annual pitch competition
  • Partnerships with multiple resource organizations
  • 10 free hours of one-on-one technical assistance

A place where people feel seen, supported and understood

While the resources themselves are valuable, Monroy emphasized that it’s important to understand people, not just business ideas.

She described the importance of recognizing each entrepreneur’s story and circumstances:

“The person is not the business, [and] the business is not the person,” Monroy said. “They have a story. They’ve come from somewhere, and they’re going somewhere.”

This approach shapes how the Innovation Hub provides support. Staff members take time to learn entrepreneurs’ goals, challenges, strengths and experiences, so they can match them with the right resources, educational opportunities and advisors.

“If we don’t know their story, it’s harder to help in the right way,” Monroy said.

It’s a philosophy that has already made an impact. Entrepreneurs frequently return to share how their one-on-one technical assistance sessions led to breakthroughs, completed projects and clarity.

“This is actually making a difference for people to be able to continue the process of making their business better, or [launching] their business,” Monroy said.

Signature events that bring the community together

The Pearland Innovation Hub cultivates connection through events that mix education, networking and peer learning.

Monthly Morning Brew Connections gatherings invite entrepreneurs to meet over coffee, share challenges and build relationships in an accessible, welcoming setting.

The PIH also hosts Business Breakthrough Conversations: topic-driven workshops led by experts who dive into areas such as networking and artificial intelligence use.

Money Matters events tackle financial literacy, offering guidance on bookkeeping, taxes, funding options and more.

The Entrepreneur Insights series brings in local founders to share real stories of success, roadblocks and lessons learned. This helps attendees understand they’re not alone in their journeys.

January 2026 will bring a new program called 1 Million Cups, in which one entrepreneur will tell their story for five minutes, and attendees will ask them questions and give feedback for 15 minutes.

The PIH also leads a pitch competition each spring, held during Small Business Week, and it has an annual State of Entrepreneurship event.

Additionally, they support the community’s pipeline of future entrepreneurs through their annual Youth Shark Tank camp for middle school students during the summer.

Building confidence and helping entrepreneurs move forward

Above all, the PIH wants every member to leave with clarity about their next steps, confidence in their journey and a sense of connection to a broader community of entrepreneurs.

Whether someone is figuring out their business structure, meeting fellow founders over coffee or receiving help with a website, the goal remains the same: to offer real, actionable value.

Pearland’s investment in small businesses helps make this possible. Monroy said she hopes entrepreneurs one day instinctively think of the PIH whenever a question or uncertainty arises:

“We want them to say, ‘I’m going to call the Pearland Innovation Hub,’” Monroy said.
