Some of Veramendi’s most significant additions are on the way, including more outdoor spaces, new homesites, hilltop amenities and expanded trail connections designed to strengthen the community’s ties to nature and to one another.

These improvements reflect a vision established years ago.

“From the very beginning, [Veramendi] has been formed to ... serve a greater community purpose,” Co-CEO Garrett Mechler said.

That purpose is taking shape in more ways the New Braunfels community will soon see and feel throughout the landscape.

Updates on Word Park, trails and neighborhood parks

Word Park is expected to break ground in early 2026. Planned as an anchor of the upcoming new phase, the park blends thoughtful design with more than 65 acres of natural space. It has been intentionally planned to feel immersive rather than manufactured.

Planned features include:
  • Nature playscapes and a water feature
  • Pickleball courts and open play spaces
  • Adventure elements
  • Wildflower meadows, hiking trails and picnic pavilions
  • Educational and interactive spaces

A key piece of Veramendi’s vision is seamless access for residents. A new trail is planned to run from Borchers Blvd. to Word Park, taking pedestrians under a bridge, designed to make the route welcoming and uninterrupted.

Mechler said accessibility has guided the effort from the start.

“We wanted to make sure [the roadway] was not a limiting factor for trail use, so we built a bridge,” Mechler said. “This is really going to be a gateway, ... and we’re excited for what that does from an entry sequence [standpoint], and for the experience of people using the trails.”

Veramendi’s commitment to nature shows up long before the first street is built. Every new section begins with a comprehensive tree survey, helping the team design homesites, parks and roadways that respect and preserve the community’s natural landscape.

“This is absolutely something people want, so we want to be able to provide that experience and that opportunity,” Mechler said.

In the next phase, three new neighborhood parks will open. Each will feature pavilions, play elements and open green space, with unique identities tailored to their surroundings. The goal is to create meaningful outdoor moments within walking distance of every home.

New amenities on the way

Veramendi plans to begin construction on its newest amenity center, The Outlook, in early 2026. The Outlook will blend the surrounding natural landscape and stunning hill country views with outdoor recreation.

The Outlook is planned to feature:
  • A multi-tiered pool
  • Green space for gatherings
  • A sports court
  • An indoor, air-conditioned space for resident gatherings
The Outlook will become Veramendi’s second amenity center, joining The Ledge, which opened in 2021 as the community’s first hub for recreation and gathering. Together, these two destinations will offer residents an even wider range of spaces to connect, unwind and enjoy the outdoors.

New homes and builder lineup

As these major amenities come to life, Veramendi will also introduce more than 200 new home sites in early 2026 with a total of over 500 new lots anticipated by the end of the year. This includes the addition of 100-foot lots and custom home lots with Hill Country views, which will be the largest lots offered in Veramendi so far.

The next phase will feature a mix of current and new builders, including:
  • Highland Homes
  • Perry Homes
  • Scott Felder Homes
  • DRB Homes
  • Drees Homes
  • David Weekley Homes
This range will offer future residents more choices in style and size while maintaining Veramendi’s overall character.

Veramendi construction

Expanding education with a new onsite elementary school

Lamar Elementary School opened its doors this fall and has quickly become a standout feature for families in and around Veramendi.

Mechler noted that the new campus is the first two-story elementary school built by New Braunfels ISD, reflecting the district’s commitment to thoughtful design and modern learning environments.

“It is an amazing school,” Mechler said. “NBISD really did an incredible job with the design and construction. We’re very grateful for the partnership with NBISD and the work that they put in to create that school.”

Lamar Elementary is the second onsite NBISD elementary school in Veramendi with Veramendi Elementary being the first to open in the community in 2017. For Veramendi residents, proximity to schools has become a meaningful amenity. Many families can walk or bike their children to and from school, something Mechler described as a unique experience.

Vision for the future

With each phase of development, Mechler said the focus remains unchanged. Every new park, trail, homesite and amenity is grounded in the same long-term goal: creating a community people feel connected to.

“Our goal within this development is [to create] a lasting legacy [that] we want to provide for both residents of Veramendi and the community as a whole,” Mechler said.

With that legacy in mind Veramendi’s next chapter is poised to be its most connected, nature-forward and community-centered yet.
