“The vibe of the store [in Vermont]—the sense of musician community that existed there—it was something special,” Fuller said. “I longed for that experience, ... and I wanted to recreate that.”
Today, The Guitar Sanctuary in McKinney stands as Fuller’s answer to that longing. It is a warm, intentionally built space where musicians of all ages come not only to shop and learn, but to connect, to grow and to find a bit of peace through sound.
For Fuller, this place is personal. Music has grounded him throughout life.
“The one constant for me in my whole life is that I find peace when I’m playing music,” Fuller said.
Building something rare
Fuller built the Guitar Sanctuary’s current home from the ground up. He designed it around something he felt was important to musicians: a performance venue attached directly to a music school. The idea was to give learners a place not only to practice, but to perform and to step into the joy that first drew them to music.
“Opening and building the location with the venue attached ... I think that’s been a real turning point,” Fuller said.

Music lessons at the Performance Academy
Fuller’s belief in the power of music is reflected through the Performance Academy. Lessons are available to anyone, from early beginners to highly accomplished musicians refining their craft. Students span ages from young children to adults in their seventies and eighties.
The Guitar Sanctuary’s Performance Academy is shaped around individual journeys. Students start by meeting with academy manager Shane Frame, who listens closely to their goals, style and skill level before pairing them with an instructor.
With more than a dozen teachers in guitar, bass, piano and vocals, the focus is on pairing each student thoughtfully.
Fuller said the goal is never just technical skill; it’s connection.
He has watched strangers bond over a shared love for the same band at a concert. He’s seen students who once struggled to play a single chord now writing music, recording and performing with their own bands.
Some students have even reached national stages, including finalists on The Voice and America’s Got Talent.
The retail side complements that mission as well. While the shop carries high-end and boutique instruments, it also stocks quality beginner options. Fuller refuses to sell instruments that would discourage a first-time player or push a purchase based on commission.

Looking ahead
Fuller hopes to continue his journey of spreading the soul of music.
“I’m most excited about continuing to introduce people to the joy of music, making music, writing music, performing music, and even just the self-therapy of playing music and the soothing of the soul,” Fuller said. “I’m excited about continuing to play some small role in helping others on their journey.”
