Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney provides convenient access to quality orthopedic care, all within one connected network that keeps the patient experience front and center.
Steps to care
Common orthopedic injuries include meniscus tears, rotator cuff tears and seasonal sports injuries, such as knee sprains and ACL tears during football season.
When an injury occurs, there are simple first steps that can often bring relief. Rest, ice, compression and elevation, commonly known as “RICE,” along with over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications, are helpful ways to ease discomfort at home.
“If those early steps don’t bring improvement, it may be time to first check in with your primary care provider for next steps,” says Sheena Black, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon on the medical staff at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney.
Depending on the situation, your health care provider may order imaging, such as X-rays or MRIs, prescribe physical therapy or make a referral to the appropriate orthopedic specialist.
Patients also have access to the new Muscle and Joint Care program, which offers a simple, patient-friendly entry point into orthopedic services.
The Muscle and Joint Care program enables patients to start with a virtual appointment, where they can speak directly with Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney’s Orthopedic team about their injury or joint pain. Together, the physician and patient walk through the symptoms and history to create a personalized treatment plan that fits the patient’s lifestyle and comfort level.

As part of recovery, patients can participate in virtual or in-person physical therapy designed to ease pain and build strength over time.
Behind the scenes, the care team helps coordinate every next step, from scheduling imaging to handling prescriptions, so patients can focus on feeling better.
If surgery becomes part of the journey, a dedicated Care Coordinator can help guide each patient through scheduling an appointment with the hospital’s team of orthopedic surgeons, and provide support before and after the procedure.
Encouraging lifelong movement
“You don’t need to be a traditional athlete to see an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon,” Dr. Black says. “Remaining a lifelong athlete and staying active at any age is the goal. It’s not always about returning to competitive sports; it’s about staying strong, mobile and able to do the things you enjoy.”
With a focus on quality care, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney continues to support North Texans with orthopedic services that help patients move more comfortably and live active, healthy lives.
For urgent orthopedic needs, care is available in person at the McKinney campus or virtually through the Muscle and Joint Care program.
