5 reasons families love Frisco’s new play-based kids program, MightyMe

For more than 16 years, FieldhouseUSA has been a Frisco staple for youth and family sports. It offers leagues, camps and programs that bring families together through basketball, volleyball, cheer, fitness and more.

The family-owned business has always focused on connection through play. Its newest partner program, MightyMe Kids Play, continues that tradition.

MightyMe Kids Play, or MightyMe, was created by a team of educators, coaches, parents and lifelong believers in the power of play—-including Marissa and Stephan Cooper, longtime friends of FieldhouseUSA co-founder Gary Oliver—-who share a vision for helping kids learn and grow through purposeful play.

Since launching October 1, the program built for kids ages two-eight has already earned praise from families. Here’s why:

1. Fun comes first, not competition

At MightyMe, classes are built around play, not pressure.

Inspired by decades of PE teaching experience within the Cooper and Oliver families, each 45-minute coach-led session focuses on the basics of how to jump over hurdles, throw a ball and so much more.

“They get the rest of their lives to be competitive,” Oliver said. “Early on, we just want them to play, have fun and learn how to interact in a group setting. We teach them the movements and the social skills ... inside MightyMe.”

The team is led by longtime PE teacher, Marissa Cooper, who designed the curriculum for the development of each child.

“[MightyMe] is PE-based,” Oliver said. “The MightyMe coaches teach each class like they’re going through a PE program for 45 minutes preparing them for the next step, either team play inside FieldhouseUSA or fitting in to their PE classes or team sport at school. ... It’s just the right ingredients, short enough, but long enough to be able to teach and coach the art of play for each kid.”

2. Confidence grows one theme at a time

Every month, MightyMe introduces a new theme that helps kids connect movement with mindset. October is Mighty Month.

“Week one was all about being mighty strong,” Cooper said. “[Week two] is about being mighty together. ... [Week three] is about mighty focus, and the fourth week is a culmination of all three of those.”

Parents are already noticing the impact.

“We’ve had a few children with different developmental needs and a few who are still building their social skills. Their parents have been really surprised at how the games have brought them out of their shell,” Cooper said. “They’re driving each other, and they’re high-fiving our coaches. [We’re getting] really good feedback.”

3. It fits the rhythm of family life

Everything about MightyMe is designed to work for parents, from flexible scheduling to birthday parties.

“As a member, they get one class per week, and they can select whichever day of the week they want. They can change that each week as well,” Cooper said. “If they want a Monday [class] this week, but a Thursday [class] next week, [there is] total flexibility.”

FieldhouseUSA CFO Emma Lanpher said MightyMe has become a welcome addition for Fieldhouse families.

“It’s amazing to see parents drop one child off at MightyMe, then make their way through the facility and cheer on another child at a league game or practice.” she said. “It’s one more amenity we offer families—a true ‘one-stop shop’ under one roof.”

4. A healthy alternative to screen time

Parents have also appreciated how the program provides a screen-free outlet at key times.

“A lot of our classes are in the early evenings,” Cooper said. “Parents are saying, ‘We don’t want to give [our kids] their screens at that time, but we don’t know what to do. We want them to have some sort of activity and some sort of movement.’”

MightyMe provides exactly that.

5. It’s easy to try, and easy to love

To make it simple for new families to join, MightyMe offers a $15 trial class pass, a low-pressure way to experience the program for themselves.
