A new bike path is almost complete at this trail system at a popular park in North San Antonio.
What residents should know
A new mountain biking trail at McAllister Park called The Grove got some “finishing touches” on Dec. 14, according to a Facebook post from the Friends of McAllister Park, or FOMP.
The trail is expected to open to the public in the spring, President of FOMP Marjesca Brown said in an email to Community Impact.
FOMP is an independent, nonprofit organization that helps to fund and maintain projects at the park, according to its website.
Volunteers helped to beautify portions of the trail, including planting vegetation, spreading mulch, laying down boulders and more, according to the post.
The new trail is a part of the City of San Antonio’s 2022-2027 Bond Program and McAllister Park Project, an approximately $2.025M initiative aimed at improving aspects of McAllister Park, according to the city’s website.
More details
The new trail is near the park’s multipurpose sports field, just outside the parking lot off Buckhorn Road.
As a “flow” trail, The Grove contains a series of hills and is named after the native Texas Persimmon, common in the San Antonio area, according to an announcement from FOMP’s Facebook page.
“Riders will glide through a series of rollers and berms like a roller coaster, with minimal pedaling required,” the post states.

The organization helps to maintain over 15 miles of trails within the park.
