The town has opened the widened Val Vista Drive from Appleby Road—about where Val Vista narrows to one lane in each direction—to Riggs Road as of Aug. 27.

The result of the 17-month project, which began in March 2020, is a six-lane section from Ocotillo Road to Merlot Street with raised medians and bike lanes. Traffic signals have been installed at Appleby, Ocotillo and Chandler Heights roads and are operational.

Assistant Town Engineer Susanna Struble said thermoplastic striping will be placed on the street in perhaps a month to replace more temporary striping now after the new asphalt has had a chance to effervesce.

The project cost $25.96 million and was paid for by the town of Gilbert and Maricopa Association of Governments.
