The work suspended after the town of Gilbert issued a notice of termination Oct. 15 to Standard Construction Company for what the town described as several uncured contractor defaults, or failure to perform any of its material obligations under an agreement.
Surety Co. is the new contractor. The town anticipates the project to be completed in September.
At the time work was suspended, the project was 60% finished. All base paving was complete.
The $3.94 million project is to improve Recker Road to minor arterial road standards, including four lanes, a raised median, landscaping, bike lanes, sidewalks and streetlights. Those improvements are in keeping with the “Gateway Character Area” from the town’s general plan.
The project is being paid for by bonds and town funds, the Maricopa Association of Government, developer contributions and investment income, according to the town’s capital improvement plan.
Standard Construction Company was the low bidder among six companies on the street work at $2.63 million when bids closed Feb. 12, 2020, according to town documents. Council approved the contracted amount March 24, 2020, on the consent agenda.
