For the second consecutive weekend, Gilbert drivers who use the Loop 202-Santan Freeway should make alternative route plans because of roadwork, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
This time, a 10-mile stretch of the freeway from Williams Field Road to the Loop 101 will be closed in both directions.
The closure begins at 10 p.m. May 10. ADOT has scheduled the road to reopen at 3 a.m. May 13.
Crews will be treating the road with an asphalt-based sealant to extend the road’s life and repair damaged pavement from the wet winter and heavy traffic, according to ADOT.
The “fog seal” treatment will involve tanker trucks spraying an asphalt-based emulsion on the pavement, according to ADOT. Crews will reopen the freeway in segments after the emulsion dries and other pavement repairs are completed.
ADOT crews did the same treatment last weekend to the stretch of the Loop 202 from Williams Field Road to the U.S. 60.
