The town of Gilbert is taking the next step toward operating its own ambulance service through the Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department.

The town began advertising March 15 for 15 emergency medical technician positions and 15 paramedics.

The town reached its limit of 200 applications for EMTs by 2 p.m. March 15 and closed the pool, Gilbert Fire and Rescue spokesperson Jennifer Snyder said.

Gilbert still is accepting applications for paramedic positions until March 28 or it reaches 200 applications, whichever comes first, Snyder said.

People interested in applying can do so here.

The service is anticipated to start in mid- to late summer, Snyder said.
