The townwide food drive May 15-17 collected enough food and cash to supply a quarter-million meals to people in need, according to town officials.
The Gilbert Feeding Families drive, which had more than 20 church sites accepting donations, collected nearly 85,000 pounds of food and $32,000 in cash to help provide another 250,000 meals to those in need.
The town partnered with United Food Bank, Midwest Food Bank, AZCEND, Mission Kitchen, Open Arms Care Center and Matthews Food Crossing for the drive.
