Pier 1 Imports, the retail home furnishings company with stores in Gilbert and Chandler, announced May 19 that it is seeking bankruptcy court permission to wind down its retail operations.

The Fort Worth, Texas-based company is hoping to begin liquidation of its assets as soon as possible after its stores are allowed to reopen from the COVID-19 pandemic under local government guidelines.

As part of the wind-down, the company intends to sell its inventory and remaining assets, including its intellectual property and e-commerce business, through the court-supervised process.

The Gilbert stores are in the Crossroads Towne Center at 3763 S. Gilbert Road, Gilbert, and in the Gilbert Gateway Towne Center at 4946 S. Power Road, Gilbert.

Both stores remain closed at this time.

The Chandler store is located in the Chandler Festival Shopping Center at 2600 W. Chandler Blvd, Ste. 12, Chandler. It previously had been identified as one of seven stores that would be closing in the Valley when the company announced its bankruptcy filing in February.

The company is continuing to serve customers through Pier1.com, and orders are being processed and filled.
