Gilbert will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with a ceremony at the town’s 9/11 memorial outside Municipal Building 1 at 50 E. Civic Center Drive, Gilbert.

The ceremony, which will include the Gilbert Police and Fire and Rescue departments, will start at 6 p.m. Sept. 11.

The memorial includes a beam from the North Tower of the World Trade Center, which was brought back to Gilbert from New York City in 2011.

After the ceremony, the town will have a tribute in light in which two beams will be projected into the sky from 7:30-10:30 p.m. to symbolize the twin towers of the World Trade Center that fell that day.

Additionally, the Gilbert Water Tower will be lit red, white and blue that night.
