The state is receiving $2.5 billion in funding as authorized through the American Rescue Plan that Congress passed in March. Like the first two rounds of funding, the use of the money is meant to be flexible for local decisions on what is needed to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, with ESSER III, 20% of the money is required to be set aside to address learning loss through the pandemic, such as through summer school or tutoring efforts.
Local awards include:
- Chandler USD: $30.66 million
- Gilbert Public Schools: $22 million
- Higley USD: $7.87 million
The districts still must apply to receive the grants.
