The three public school districts that serve students in Gilbert outperformed state averages on assessment tests, according to 2018-2019 data released Oct. 7 from the Arizona Department of Education.
More than half the students in Gilbert Public Schools, Higley USD and Chandler USD passed the assessment tests, while state averages lagged at 42% in both English language arts and mathematics.
The state offers AzMERIT as its primary assessment instrument but allows districts and charters to alternatively use use the SAT, ACT or Multi-State Alternative Assessment.
Gilbert Public Schools students passed ELA assessments at a 53% clip, while 52% of its students passed mathematics.
Higley USD posted the highest passing rates at 63% in ELA and 65% in mathematics. It also had the most students performing at the highest level—24% in ELA and 30% in math.
Chandler USD had 59% of its student pass ELA and 58% in mathematics.
The three districts also outperformed the statewide charter school averages, where 51% ELA assessments and 48% in math.
