Four schools in Gilbert recognized as A+ schools

Four schools in Gilbert earned recognition this week as A+ Schools of Excellence from the Arizona Education Foundation.

Each of the districts that serve families in Gilbert are represented among the award winners:

• Chandler Traditional Academy-Freedom Campus, Chandler USD
• Gateway Pointe Elementary School, Higley USD
• Playa del Rey Elementary School, Gilbert Public Schools
• Towne Meadows Elementary School, Gilbert Public Schools

The four schools will get to keep the label for 3 1/2 years before having to apply again. Eleven other schools in Gilbert have active A+ recognitions earned in previous years.

The foundation has given the award since 1983, using an application process it describes as comprehensive and rigorous.

Applicant schools are evaluated in the areas of student focus and support, school culture, active teaching and learning, curriculum, leadership, community and parent involvement, and assessment data, according to the foundation. A site visit is part of the evaluation.

Chandler USD had a record seven schools recognized this year, though CTA-Freedom was the only one located in the Gilbert portion of its district.

Gateway Pointe is the first school in Higley USD to earn the recognition since 2015.
