New classroom building, locker rooms coming to Perry High


A new classroom building and locker room facility is coming to Perry High School in Gilbert.

The governing board approved a $9.85 million contract Nov. 14 with Chasse Building Team to construct a two-story, 39,396-square-foot classroom addition on the east side of campus, 1919 E. Queen Creek Road, Gilbert. It will have 34 classrooms, including two art classrooms on the first floor.

Also approved was the 6,434-square-foot locker room facility, the relocation of long-jump pits where the locker rooms will go, the demolition and replacement of eight tennis courts, utility infrastructure for food service to add a java coffee pod, and a shade canopy to extend outside seating for students.

Associate Superintendent for Support Services Frank Fletcher said the state’s school facilities board will provide $6.97 million of the funding.

The vote was 4-0 with member David Evans absent.

The board also approved on a 3-1 vote, with Karen McGee voting nay, construction of districtwide sand volleyball court facility at Casteel High School in Queen Creek. It will cost $821,862 and be ready for the spring season.
